Our install is one piece of metal shy of being done. We will weld one huge support post and a huge foot plate and then we are complete. This was such a fun and challenging project. SAWS is an amazing group of people who were very supportive and patient with the artistic process. We also can't speak highly enough of Blond Creative! They are an amazing company that cares so much about the satisfaction of their clients they will literally go till the 11th hour and the end of the world to get the job done. If your in San Antonio and need advertising or marketing or website or even event services this is the one stop creative shop!

We will have a much better image tomorrow of what this beast is looking like we just got the plasma cut stainless steel panels in and and of our plexiglass is done and laminated. We will be TIG welding and grinding all day. Its going to be a high caffeine kind of day! Here are some pics of a minimal steel baby gate or pet gate with stainless steel mesh, we can do these with any decoration and style or scroll work in a custom size to fit any doorway or double doorway. Also some huge chunks of wood for some cool reclaimed wood barstools in an industrial urban style.
In our blog today we have Autumn building our first set of stairs at a friends art studio. Next is a video of us installing the dandelion sculpture at the Texas State Fair a while back. We also have Autumn and Simon repairing a bronze sculpture at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio. And then we also have a pic of the first location of Wanderlust Ironworks LLC. This little welding table that Autumn built me was our whole shop and it was in 1/2 of a garage. Im sure we won't be computer billionaires one day but some pretty amazing companies got a start in a garage! And lastly Simon with a mohawk. Hey Alamo City! We are possibly building a custom version of a chandelier a client saw in a fancy wine bar here in San Antonio. This monster is a large three tier one with a few hundred champagne flutes and wine glasses and shines like a diamond when lit up. Also we are cutting a bunch of different sizes of square tube in to slices that we will be making a custom baby gate or pet gate from. Had our last approval meeting with SAWS folks and Blond Creative and are in the home stretch of our public art piece. We have always heard the process is complex sometimes but the challenge of getting everyone involved united and on the same page is fun once it all comes together. This giant city is starting to feel like a small town. I never thought I could feel hometown pride for a place I was not raised and that it could feel small and cozy like our small town beginnings. The thing that makes this city amazing is the people and how supportive and family like they are especially in the creative and artistic community. These people have each others back and thats refreshing in the current state of the world, there is plenty of good out there you just got to stop and smell the roses.
Had a fun adventure day yesterday. Drove all around Helotes Tx and San Antonio picking up and dropping off parts and pieces here and there. As a bonus here is a pic of Autumn in her dance clothing from quite a while ago I'm sure she will be glad I posted this to the whole world. All these mailboxes and not one from Wanderlust Ironworks! This is the biggest bottle tree we have come across driving around out in the country.
Our project for SAWS is well underway and is a blast to make! We miss art and sculpture and creativity will all the bread and butter furniture and random projects that keep this ship afloat we forgot how much healing goes on while making artwork work. San Antonio is also in healing mode today with a MLK march, stay dry to all who are marching. Simons dad Danny found these hair dryers that look like they are from an art deco space ship and we are going to go all through them and restore them to be a beautiful pair of matching floor lamps and they will become the most unique hand made light fixtures. Picked up some machine parts we needed ASAP in one of the new Amazon Lockers and it is so dang easy, we will be getting a ton of supplies this way from here on out. Working on the stainless and plexiglass art installation for SAWS the water company down here. Had a cool super car come to the shop if your into that type of thing. Autumn had a long day! In the morning she had a kiss from her hot bearded husband under the biggest mistletoe ever and at the end of the day had one of the worst weld burns yet! Got our new machine on a cart and organized ready to go (thanks to Rebecca our #1 employee). Made a torch holder. Working on some small custom nesting tables.
Headed to H town this morning to get a pile of new stainless steel for an art piece. Got our "Art" (Hobart) brand welder yesterday and have always been told how complex Tig welding is and how if your ever get damn good at it the test was to weld two razorblades blade to blade because its so delicate. Well on day one with it both Autumn and I did just that Bam! Fixed some restoration hardware crap recently.... again! People just come talk to us before you head to that stupid place and get ripped off with their crap Chinese junk thats so expensive and get it hand made for a better price! Also almost lost a good boot this morning to the other Tig in our life. We also had a pretty cool sports car at the shop yesterday. Last but not least we have a photo of the last mailbox we installed and the brown patina is coming along nice.
Just wanted to say thank you this morning to all the people we work with every week and all the amazing clients we have met so far in this business adventure! We are so grateful to do somthing we love everyday. Today we have some throwback pics from when Autumn and I were just pups at University of Texas at Tyler and hauling sculptures around on an orange tractor, sledding in a random snow storm, and getting great advise from Dewane Huges about how to Art! We broke a ton of rules at that school and several laws such as you cant bring a tractor to school its not on the approved supply list, but came out on top a little smarter and a little wiser. We also got the other half of our cool wireless security and camera system up and running, this is handy for when we get deliveries and arent there to open the door. Also doing some work for our good friend Cathy Cunningham Little this week.
Good morning San Antonio! We are busy as bees so we are now calling the studio "The Hive" plus we are 311 fans so it just makes sense. We are shipping out yet another giant light fixture and are ready for more! We just delivered more custom picnic tables to our friends over at Chris Madrid's. There is now a sea of picnic tabes over there to choose from and more to come. Amazing Texas sunrise this morning and we happen to not miss our shot of this street sign!
This year is off to a running start! Today we have a shot of one of our stainless steel dandelion sculptures. We have a rendering of some super heavy duty brackets for a massive pair of book matched live edge logs that are going in Magnolia Halle at Magnolia Pancake Haus. Here is a shot of Autumn in our required safety gear and custom painted hardhat at the water plant where our art piece is going. Also since we work with heavy metal here is Simon demonstrating heavy metal. Good Morning! Today we have a few shots of a sculpture from a while back going through the painting process. Also we have a mailbox install and our odly paired dogs. The little guy have the upper hand on the blue heeler. Good Morning! Here is a great shot of one of our light fixtures from our friends at Magnolia Halle. Also a cart we made for a local high school to use in cinderella and other plays they will bolt plywood sides to it. Almost done resotring a large public sculpture for a client in Jersey and a custom rack for a work van.
Had some fun on our break, went to Tyler, Groesbeck, Highland Park, and Winsbourough to see family and got to throw some axes! These throwing axes are more fun than we could have thought. Back to the shop we are working on a ton of new projects and shipping out more that we are getting done. Even our dog Tig got to see his sister.
