We got a puppy to take over for Odie at Wanderlust Ironworks. This little blue heeler puppy is Odie's sisters pup so we are excited to hopefully get a bunch of his quirky traits from his bloodline. Not sure what to do with a dog that has four legs, it will be different to have him just jump in the truck instead of lifting him each time. Im sure all the welding and sparks and noise will become second nature to him and will become another part of the shop that we cant live without. We are thinking that we will name him Tig after a specific type of welding process. He is not here in San Antonio Texas yet but will be by thanksgiving!
We got done installing Autumn's dandelion at fair park in Dallas Texas this week and a repainted a finished sculpture of Simon's as well. The dandelion took 5 hours to install and we lucked out and had an amazing group of guys to help put it up. This thing was 24 feet tall after it was up. The Texas State Fair is going to be great this year. We are right behind Big Tex and the swan boats. Back in San Antonio Texas today and starting new sculpture with all the newly found gears and steel pieces that Danny Saleh has sourced for us! Bought a mattress in Tyler Texas before we headed home and it got rained on two times over the 7 hour drive home! Its been an amazing week! Done with all of our welding and functional and bread and butter jobs that have come in and have an open schedule to make nothing but art for a while!
San Antonio was quiet this morning before the sun cam up today. This was the coolest morning in the studio since we moved in and didn't feel like we were in Texas anymore. Autumn working like a well oiled machine welding and cutting the last bits of her Dandelion Sculpture for the Texas State fair. Hopefully going to learn a few tips and tricks on blacksmith work when we get there. The stem to her dandelion is a 21ft 2" schedule 40 pipe that she rolled to a slight arch. #Gardenart, #metalsculpture, #dandelion, #metalart, #customsculpture, #publicartsculpture, #texasstatefair, #blacksmithart
Video of a trip to the scrapyard in San Antonio. Found a perfect base for our dandelion sculpture that was 450lbs and got the guy to drop it in the trailer with the magnet. And a pile of gears for small decor items industrial office decor and bookends etc. Ready to take off for the Texas State Fair!
Today on the menu at Wanderlust Ironworks we have lightly flame kissed day old pizza and hand forged blacksmith antique car parts. These various brackets are for a rare car from the 1930's and 1940's called a Bantam. The Bantam was the predecessor to the Jeep and Willys Jeep. The bottom left hex rod piece is what was used to "crank" or start the car, sure makes me thankful for the modern car starter and key! Welded and fabricated in San Antonio Texas.
Got a ton of new color today at the paint yard here in San Antonio Texas. The selection this place has is beyond what we thought possible from a can of spray paint. Welding and fabrication off and rolling, rolling pipe thanks to Elite Metal tools, thanks for the pipe dies.

Today we are figuring out several color schemes for Autumn's dandelion sculpture that fade from one color to another. Wanting to include some of the festive colors we often see around San Antonio. Just got our set of pipe roller dies and are ready to start welding and fabricating so we can get this thing to the Texas State Fair. The seeds are made of 309 stainless steel. Would be a perfect addition to any courtyard and or garden, this is not your average yard art at 18 feet tall.
We made several of these recently and can customize this design in any way you want! Thick sturdy steel is solid welded in construction that you could hold the weight of a pickup truck and will last a lifetime. Can be made from thinner steel if needed to reduce weight for shipping.
These two sculptures will be in the Texas state fair! If you are the first one to see them at the fair and tag wanderlustironworks in a photo of them on facebook we will send you a free pair of custom welded industrial bookends! Happy hunting.
Custom welded bike trailers we made recently for a company to put their logo on and take downtown San Antonio Texas. They had a battery system that would charge up to 6 phones at a time for use at downtown events like fiesta and such. They also had a door in the rear for water and storage.
